We hope you had a wonderful winter break. We are very excited to welcome the children back to school and to start our learning journey together this term.

The Squirrel class teacher is Mr Puddick, and our teaching assistants are Miss Dawn and Mr Ali.

Our Learning This Half Term

English – We will begin by focusing on our fundamental writing skills by looking at what makes a simple sentence. We will write fact file all about ourselves and write about our likes and dislikes. 
Maths - We will continue to build on our addition and subtraction strategies. Then some children will be moving on to learning the 2, 5 and 10 times table.
Art – We will develop our painting skillls by exploring watercolour paint.
Science – Our focus is on light and shadows. We will investigate light sources and how shadows are formed.
Geography – We will look at the countries of the UK and the physical features in them.
Religion and Worldviews – We will be exploring Christianity and the key question: “Is it possible to be kind to everyone all of the time?
PE - PE lessons will take place on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. (confirmation will be sent home by Mr Puddick). On PE days, children should come to school wearing the correct PE kit: White top, Black trousers, shorts, or leggings and suitable trainers.

Reading

Every child will read daily with an adult in school, using a book matched to their ability. Children will also be set a book on E-Collins. Please encourage 10 minutes of reading every day. A reading record will be provided; please sign it when your child has read with you. Reading records must br brought to school each day.

Homework and Spellings

• Maths: Children will practise using Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars.
• English: Weekly spelling practice.
• Homework will be given out on Fridays. Children’s logins will be stuck into the front of their homework books.

Knowledge Organisers
Each week, children will also be set 10 minutes of topic homework, linked to our Knowledge Organisers. These contain the key facts and knowledge children need for their subjects. Knowledge Organisers will be uploaded to our class page.
