Squirrel Group 2023 - 2024

Miss Fraser

Welcome to Squirrel Group, we are so excited to welcome all the children back for Autumn Term. The teacher is Miss Fraser and the teaching assistants are Miss Alli and Miss Dawn.

What we are learning this half term:

In English we are going to be using ‘Photos for Writing’ to create some short burst pieces of writing. In Science, we will be learning about plants. In Geography, we are going to be answering the enquiry questions ‘What are seasons?’ and ‘Why are the climates important?’.

P.E.

Children will take part in weekly P.E lessons. The day your child will attend will be communicated to individual parents and carers based on transitions. Children must come to school in their PE kits (white top, black trousers/shorts/leggings and appropriate trainers). Please make sure children have the correct PE kit.

Phonics

In Squirrel Group, we have daily phonics lessons. To support your child with phonics, see the phonics page on the website for games and websites you can use.

Reading

Children will be given two books a week to read at home. The first book will be matched to their phonic ability and will be set on the Collins Ebook app each Friday. The second book will be a sharing book. This is a book the children have chosen themselves. They may not be able to read this independently however it encourages them to develop a love for reading. Children should read daily for 10 minutes. Children will be given a reading record to record when they have read to an adult at home. Please sign the reading record when you have read at home with your child or if they have read independently.

Homework and Spellings

In Squirrel Group, maths homework will consist of Numbots and Mathletics. Mathletics homework, which links to the topics we are learning in class, will be set every Friday. The apps will be checked by the teachers every Wednesday. English homework will be to practise phonics and spellings. We also encourage the children to complete around 10 minutes of Lexia each day to support their reading, writing and spelling. Children’s logins will be stuck into the front of their homework books.
