Year 2 2026 - 2027

Welcome to Year 2! We are excited to welcome the children back for the Autumn term. The year 2 teachers are Miss West (2W) and Miss Lloyd (2L). The Teaching Assistants are Miss Rocque (2L) and Mrs Butterworth (2W).

We have included a list of important information which will be helpful for your child’s learning.

PE and Dance

PE will take place on Tuesdays (City in the Community) and Thursdays - Dance.

Please ensure your child comes to school in their full PE kit on these days. For safety reasons, earrings must be removed or covered, and long hair should be tied back.

Home Reading and Homework Apps
Reading at home remains a vital part of your child’s development. We ask that children read at home at least 3 times per week and record this in their reading record. Children will be sent home with a learning log, which contains activities for each subject across the curriculum. Children will also be given spellings to practice each week. We ask that one piece is completed each week. Homework is also set on the following online learning platforms, you will find your child’s login at the front of their Reading Record, homework is set every Friday and is due in the following Friday:

Mathletics – for maths fluency and problem-solving.

Times Tables Rockstars – by the end of Year 2, all children are expected to be able to rapidly recall the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Times Table Rockstars is a fantastic app to support this!

Learning this half term:

In Maths we are learning about place value and numbers within 100, addition and subtraction and multiplication of 2, 5 and 10.

In English, we will focus on basic skills and use them to write a narrative about the story Leaf, a letter to Floella Benjamin, and a fact file.

In Science we will be learning about living things and their habitats.

In Geography we will be learning about the countries in the United Kingdom and seasonal weather.

In R.E. we will learn about Christianity and kindness.

In Art we will practice our sketching and shading skills to create a skyline of London during the Great Fire inspired by Stephanie Peters.
