Miss Smith

Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful break and feel ready for the year ahead.

The Year 2 teachers are Miss Fraser (2F) and Miss Smith (2S). The teaching assistants are Miss Butterworth (2F), Miss E Smith (2F) and Miss Nicolae (2S).

PE and Dance

PE will take place on Tuesdays (City in the Community) and Thursdays - Dance.

Please ensure your child comes to school in their full PE kit on these days. For safety reasons, earrings must be removed or covered, and long hair should be tied back.

Home Reading and Homework Apps
Reading at home remains a vital part of your child’s development. We ask that children read at home at least 3 times per week and record this in their reading record. Homework is set on the following online learning platforms, you will find your child’s login at the front of their Reading Record, homework is set every Friday and is due in the following Friday:

Mathletics – for maths fluency and problem-solving.

Times Tables Rockstars – by the end of Year 2, all children are expected to be able to rapidly recall the 2, 5 and 10 times table. Times Table Rockstars is a fantastic app to support this!

E-Collins – for accessing their reading books online.

All logins will be found on the front page of your child's reading record. Please encourage regular use of these apps as part of your child’s weekly home learning routine.

Curriculum Coverage – Spring 1 Term
This half term, we will be exploring a variety of exciting topics:

Maths: Measurement, Mass, Temperature and Pictograms. We will also be focussing on word problems and continuing to have a focus on the 2, 5 and 10 times table.

English: A strong focus on grammar and sentence structure. We are starting the term with a writing unit based on 'Little Red Reading Hood by Lucy Rowland.

Art: 'The natural landscape' using paint to create a landscape incorportating flowers, trees and water.

Geography: Learning about the journey of our food.

RE: Does praying in regulary intervals help a Muslim in their everyday life?

Science: Animals including humans - a focus on what animals and humans need to survive.

Knowledge Organisers
Knowledge Organisers are useful documents that summarise key facts, vocabulary, and concepts children will be learning each term. These will be posted on our class page and will also be used to support homework tasks. Please take some time to look through them with your child each week, as they are a great way to reinforce learning at home.

If you have any questions or concerns at any point, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Let’s work together to make this a successful and enjoyable term for your child.

Warm regards,
Miss Smith and Miss Fraser
