Our class teacher is Mr Ginley Ibbotson. Our class TAs are Miss Fisk, Miss Gaily, Miss Vaz and Miss Morgan.

What We Are Learning This Half Term

This half term, we will be exploring the book Badger's Band. We will be looking at Badger as all his friends join him with instruments to play in his band. We will be learning about each instrument Badger is presented with and listening to examples of them being played.

We will also be focusing on shapes through our book Shapes with Little Fish. We will recap our knowledge of shapes and create them in many different ways.

Our activities are centred around the children's sensory exploration. We will be supporting our topics of learning through different sensory experiences, including tactile and auditory activities.

We will be practising our transitions through Travel Training and exploring different areas of the school as a class.

Each day, the students work on their engagement and communication skills through Attention Autism sessions, whole-class engaging activities and 1-to-1 activities based on their individual targets.

Communication, Language and Interaction Targets

Each child has specific targets. These may be based on their EHCP outcomes, advice from a Speech and Language Therapist, or advice from similar agencies. Your child will be working towards their targets each day with an adult.

These targets are reviewed at the end of each half term by teachers and the Speech and Language Therapist. If you are unsure of your child's targets, you can ask the class teacher.

Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) Support

Every Monday, our Speech and Language Therapist, Mehreen, spends the day in class. She works with individual children, carrying out activities based on their SALT targets. She also provides training for staff members to ensure we can deliver these activities on the other four days of the week.

Sensory Play

Different sessions will involve sensory exploration. Some will involve messy play, water play and other similar activities. Children may come home with dirtier clothes on some days.

Please provide spare clothes if you would like your child to be changed following these activities.

Communication Books

Every day, we will write in your child's communication book about how your child has been and what they have done, if requested. Communication books must be brought to school every day, and we will always return them to you at the end of the school day.

Please check your child's communication book every evening and write a message to let us know how they have been and what they have done at home. We ask all parents/carers to at least add their initials each day so we know that important messages have been received.

Toileting

If your child is in pads, please ensure you bring at least four pads per day, as well as your preferred wipes.

If your child is engaging in toilet training, please ensure that you bring spare clothes (at least four pairs of underpants/knickers, trousers, socks and T-shirts), as well as a spare pair of shoes.
